Severe weather hits northern Indiana

The service's Northwest Indiana office said this morning that they'll make that determination later today.A storm cell that hit LaPorte County was among several thunderstorm waves that moved across the state throughout the day. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for much of northern Indiana, where the late afternoon storm caused scattered damage.
In LaPorte, a sheriff's detective following a funnel cloud had her patrol car picked up and lifted over a three-foot-high fence before landing upside down in a field. She suffered minor injuries.
